What's Your Genre?

A question to ponder on a Monday...

If your life were a novel, what genre would it be?

I'd like to think of mine as magical realism (hey, I can dream) with a hint Salinger-esque coming of age angst, but it's probably more "literary chick lit."

What's yours?

  1. Mine would be a tragedy. Haha! I feel like an old soul. There would be Godfather-esque music playing and occasionally Lawrence of Arabia when I travel. I'd be just literary, though. With one of those angsty, dysfunctional families -- a family of businessmen not artists.

Dark comedy, too. I find humor (and hope) in mundane subjects.

  2. Mine would probably be a travelogue! I never stay put more than a few years at a time. Hangover from a diplomatic upbringing I guess....

  3. Hmmm . . . fun question, but I have to think about this. Someone told me I was Anne of Green Gables just yesterday. And perhaps not to far off (minus the red hair). I want to say comedy, but I have been accused of living the fairy tale life. I don't know. This is harder than I thought! :)

  4. I was going to say romantic comedy, but since I'm happily married, the whole "boy meets girl, boy loses girl, lather, rinse repeat" part of it wouldn't quite work.

So now I'm thinking my life would be... overgrown YA chick lit. Or something similar to the more bouncy, ridiculous parts of GLEE (and not just because I like to burst into song frequently).

  5. I'm thinking a Robertson Davies dry read right now... maybe with a touch of dark comedy.

  6. Jack Reacher novel. In fact, as I write this comment, I'm actually deep in the heart of the American mid-west, foiling a massive government conspiracy involving home-grown terrorists, corrupt politicians, and a devastatingly beautiful double-agent. How little you all know me.

  7. My life would totally be a college aged graphic novel like Scott Pilgrim. lol.

  8. What a funny question. Is memoir excluded? How would you classify a story about a guy who spends all his time daydreaming about his imaginary friends? Dark comedy?

  9. While I would love to be an epic fantasy, I'm probably closer to a YA contemporary fiction. I love this question by the way. :) So much fun.
