Literary Dates

Valentine's Day is on Monday, but for those celebrating, love will be in the air this weekend. (Mondays will never be romantic, no matter what holiday happens to fall on them.) So I thought I'd lead you all into your  weekends - whether full of flowers & candy or spent with a box of white wine & Jagged Little Pill - with a literary fantasy:

What would be your ideal date with any literary character?

Concert and mix-tape swap with Rob Gordon? Trip to the Natural History Museum with Holden Caulfield? European rendezvous with Jake Barnes? Or a Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist-style epic night with the "Nick" or "Norah" of your choice? (I think I'd go with that one.)

Possibilities are endless, and things like logistics, legal ages (hello YA crushes!), and time constraints don't matter here. Happy planning!

Enjoy your weekend, no matter what you end up doing :)

  1. Going to keep my literary crush a secret because, well, that's how I roll but I will provide our perfect date.

Simply put, an evening in front of a fire where he reads to me. Can't get any better than that.

  2. I'd get Jace to take me demon hunting. Not sure that's romantic, but maybe he'd draw a few runes on me with his stele. I'd let him pick where.

  3. Dancing with Mr. Darcy. Absolutely. ^_^

  4. I'd love to take a moonlight sleigh ride with Count Vronsky (from Tolstoy's Anna Karenina), wrapped in black sable (me, not the Count), on our way to his dacha for midnight picnic of caviar & ice cold vodka!

  5. Mac Campbell (Louisa May Alcott's Rose in Bloom) can read me some poetry. Then we'd make out in the library or in my study, which would be decked out with flowers we'd picked out especially for their meaning. Sigh.

  6. I'm a married man, so can't think that way anymore... but I'm pretty certain the most awkward literary V-Day would be trying to spend it with Stieg Larsson's Lisbeth Salander. Just a guess... will she kiss you, or kick you in the groin? It would all depend on her mood, I suppose.
